Our History and Local Area

The Old Cock Inn is a traditional 16th Century pub. The gardens of the Inn were used for the very popular ‘Beanfeasts’ when people from as far away as London would take a trip by charabance for a ‘feast’ at one of Harpenden’s pubs or inns.  It was also used as a pick-up point for the Luton to London coach-service until this was superceded by the arrival of the railways in the 1860s.

Harpenden is a town in the St Albans City district in the county of Hertfordshire, England.

It has become one the fastest emerging towns in Hertfordshire when it exponentially started developing in the 20th century. From Railways to Telephone Industry.

However, before the institution of advancements, Harpenden was known as a village famous for its clean air and agricultural aspects. Majority of locals were farmers, in fact, there were more than 30 farms before the 19th century.
